I was right!

All summer we kept seeing amazingly bright Hawaian shirts in the shops.

I wanted one.
I would grab one off the rack and hold it in front of myself, saying "I want this!"
The reactions were varied:
  • No, bladdy!
  • Please don't!
  • Don't you dare!
  • Who is that person?

Varied but united in their rejection of my desires - I am a simple guy (aren't we all?), I don't expect much from life, but they all conspired to stop me getting the one thing that I wanted - a really embarassing shirt.

But what has happened now? Number One Son has been invited to a party - a Hawaian party. Can we find him a suitable shirt now that the summer has gone? No, of course not!

Now, if only they had allowed me to get one in the summer....

I WAS RIGHT!

I love them. I have about 5 mostly a subdued fern or leaf pattern.

You WERE right!! You should have figured out a way to buy yourself one on the sly...

And that picture is from Blue Hawaii, one of my favourite movies of all time. Did you know that Ellery was going to be named Mylie (after that girl in the picture, and after this place back home that reminds me of my dad), until Mylie Cyrus became big and made me hate the name?

You should have at least 3 in the stable at all times. I have over 7 now that range from the glow-in-the-dark patterns to the more subtle sit back on the lanai with a mai-tai kinda style. I picked up a few when we went to Maui a few years back and several more for our cruise last fall. Every guy should have a shirt or two just to express your inner child. Something about them says you are enjoying life.

Wreggie - I took this for granted - they go with the lifestyle!

Ali - Next time I see one... I knew the pic was from Blue Hawaii - haven't seen it for years, um never really an Elvis fan, um, did I just ruin it all by saying that? Mylie is a great name, regardless of what you think of Mylie Cyrus, but imagine that there will be a lot of them now.

agg79 - Expressing my inner child? I do that all the time,so why not have the shirt too? Thanks, I will be getting one the next time I see one. I will be blaming you and Ali if given a hard time!

I love the Hawaiian shirts. I bought a blue one for Mark last year and it looks great with his khaki shorts!

See? From the comments here, it's clear that you have good fashion sense!

Terri - Either that or the bloggers that I hang around with are just as wacko as I am!

lol - I can't for the life of me figure out why these are for sale in England! lol But heck, if you want one, buy one. Life is too short.

They are the quintessential vacation wear - no matter where you go on vacation, even if it's a stay-cation. See, even people in Minnesota wear them, right Terri?

Kate - These shirts have been available over here for many years - probably dates back to the TV series Hawaii-5-0, which you are too young to remember. I know the vision of Brits wearing these things in cloudy, rainy Britain is funny...
