That was nice!

I woke this morning to the DJ on the radio telling us that there was more snow coming. People were calling in from all over the county saying that there was snow where they were. Looking out of the window all I could see was the remains of our last fall.

By the time I got the bike out there was evidence of a little fresh snow - a gentle sprinkle, like sugar on a cake.

As I left I could feel that something was falling, but it was so fine it was invisible, just lumps of damp air.

Heading off along the road towards the woods I felt it forming into something more substantial - icy lumps of freezing rain, so cold my face hurt!

But I can take it! I am a strong guy! (Cough, cough) I am! Honest!

Anyway, it was not until I arrived that I realised what had happened to me and my bike. We were covered with a fine film of ice. Parts of my coat were rigid! It was so cool! I have never had that before! I felt like Scott of the Antartic, but still alive!

I am such a hero, don't you think?

YES! You are a hero! Reports of snow would have kept me off the bike. Heck, sometimes I think I should stay home and not take my car out in the stuff.

Don't you have a problem keeping the bike upright in such freezing rain or snow? Doesn't it get slippery? Be careful!

Terri - It can be a bit tricky when there are solid sheets of ice, but these tend to get mashed by the cars so they are few and far between. I also know the roads really well and know where they are likely to be, which really helps!

tz - That is amazing isn't it? Last night parts of Britain reached -10C, very cold for here. But that is "Global Warming" for you! It won't hotter, it will just get more messed up!

Biking in the snow, the rain, the ice?? You are a diehard, aren't ya? The only time I get my bike out is when it is sunshine and seventy (F). OK, to clarify, I only get my bicycle out then. I get my motorcycle out when it is over 50F and the roads are clear.

Okay, I used to think that my sister and I were pretty tough, we had to walk to school in most weather and it was rough sometimes...we lived as far as you could from school without be eligible for the bus...
but you may have just bypassed us in hard core toughness...I never would have made it. In fact imagining it now makes me shiver!!!

Indeed, you're a super hero! I can not imagine riding my bike in the freezing cold, not to mention freezing rain!!! Snow is bad enough. You are one tough dude!!!!! :)

Take care... watch those ice patches. Do you guys get ice patches there? In Dallas, you get what they call 'black ice'. You can't see it until you're on it... hope you don't get any of that nasty stuff.
