Terri made me think of this post. When she gets a song stuck in her head she calls it an ear-worm. What a great name for it!
On Saturday, my Ear-worm was "Give it up" by Thin Lizzy:
I didn't realise until I was in the cheese aisle of the local supermarket and found myself singing it, um, quite loudly! Glancing around the packed store I found that there was a huge space around me, the only person within about 20 feet of me was a very worried looking guy rushing past with his trolley. I had to laugh! Were they frightened of catching something? Happiness, perhaps? Who knows? Who cares?
But it does lead to my tip-top tip for the day!
If you are in a busy shop and can't get through, start singing very loudly - you might suddenly find that you have a lot more space around you!

That's funny. I spend half of my time in the store trying to convince my kiddos to sing more quietly.
hehe, that sounds like a great plan! - I'll have to try that one out sometime! :)
Your kiddos are clearly ahead of me in this game!
Zig - Let us know how it works out!
See, husband and I generally don't sing in the grocery store, we tend to dance. Wildly. Especially me.
Except now that Ellery is here I can pretend it's purely for her entertainment :)
Ali - I can see that within a few years, Miss E will be the most sensible person in your house :-)
And does dancing get you the same clear space around you? I can imagine it would...
I don't know...I can already rile her up pretty good. She gets all giggly and squealy :)
And actually, I find that people tend to just smile at us (they're probably scared) while we dance - no one really moves away.
Look at you brining sunshine and smiles wherever you go...or atleast you are tryin to! :)
I LOVE it! I usually just sing outloud to annoy my teens...It makes THEM leave a wide space between me and them! I didn't know it would work on EVERYONE else. Hmmmm, I do have to go to the store later this evening.....[evil grin]!
(I'm thinking of Take Me To The River by the Talking Heads.)
LOL>wish I knew this tip at the Christmas sales ha ha x
Ali - That must be a great sight - you have posted videos of just you and Chris out shopping, how about an update?
Teresa - It does work sometimes - more on that soon!
Michele - I know the song - not their version, but it is an old one - sounds perfect! Let us know how it works out.
Sitting in Silence - I am sure it won't be long before there is another sale - Pre-Spring Sales? Spring Sales? Aunty Bessie's Birthday Sales?
That's a GREAT song to get stuck in your head! I love the picture of all the shoppers, rushing about, steering clear of the happy guy! If only they knew how good it felt... they'd do it too!
UPDATE:
I did go out shopping at that big discount box store that is taking over America. I was only there a few moments when a good friend of mine entered the store, too. I told her of this zany idea... YEP, we sang out loud, but I forgot to notice if people were giving us space because we were laughing SOOooo hard! I wonder if the townsfolk thought we were drunk or something? Who cares?! We had fun, laughed till we cried, and have a great "rememer when" story. Thanks!
Terri - I think it is one of those things that everyone should try once!
Michele - That is fantastic! I can't believe you actually did it! Well I can now, after reading your comment on my Happiness post. You are a nut! I love you!
