Standing out in the crowd

Today is one of those days when I know that I stand out like a sore thumb.

I am used to standing out for various reasons:

At 6'2", while by no means a giant, I often find that I am one of the tallest people in a group - sometimes THE tallest. This was often my fate at school after the age of around 11 when I started really growing...

My mad scientist hair tends to stand out...

And, of course, my dashing good-looks always attract attention :-)

But today I am really standing out. You see, the weather has been so amazing recently that I have taken to wearing shorts and t-shirt all of the time.

Sadly, the weather has decided that today is Winter again. Everyone else is all wrapped up and keeping snug, while I am slowly freezing to death in my shorts.

I really should start watching the weather forecast again!

And now that work is over, I will be standing out again - my dad has asked me to buy in a load of microwave meals, which means I will be hitting the checkout with 20 more or less identical frozen meals...

Hmm, maybe you need a pair of zip off pants? They were really big here about...6 years ago. Then you have shorts AND pants - yay!

And in general, I think it's good to stand out in a crowd. I don't have the height or mad-scientist hair, but I make up for it with my loud voice and even louder laugh :)

I'm not real good about keeping track of the weather either. But generally speaking, I'm always a little on the chilly side, so I tend to be prepared. You can always remove layers. It's harder to cope when you haven't worn enough.

I tend to stand out too. I guess I'm kinda tall for a woman.

You are a giant man. This coming from a 5'7" man.

Zip off pants are da bomb. I use them when I travel from freezing weather here to St Croix in the winter.

Zip off trews are a great idea until you lose one leg in the wash. Are you really 6-2? I have stood next to you of course and don't remember you as that big in my mind...you are not allowed to count 6 inches of vertical hair John! (I am just jealous)

I often stand out as well, at
5'10" I amusually the tallet woman in the room and then to add to it, I love heels, tall, pointy stilettos....lucky for me Ken is 6'4"!!!

Ali - Mrs RC has a pair of those. Thanks for the suggestion. Yeah, I think you would be hard to miss in a crowd!

Terri - I usually try to wear too much rather than too little. And yes, you are "kinda tall".

Wreggie - Thanks - I think I will look out for some of these for camping.

James - You aren't the first person to question whether I am really that tall. Some small people act big - perhaps I act small?

Kiki - I used to work with a woman who was as tall as you and then wore stilettos. She refused to date anyone less than 6'2", prefering 6'4". Kinda cut down her options, though! Glad you caught one!

I have been 6' tall since 8th grade - the only thing that saved me there was the fact that there was actually a girl taller than me in my class. My Dad was 6'7" and my brothers are all tall - but - I have to say from my experience that a short man who didn't care that I was tall was always appealing to me! My husband was 6'4" - but height never mattered to me and I can always tell when it matters to a man.

Um Naief - Haven't seen those. If he starts eating them a lot I will look around at the options. Trouble is he is very unadventurous and won't eat anything that is remotely interesting! The only time I don't cycle to work is when there is ice on the roads.

Clare - I must admit that taller women have a certain wow-factor - not that many women are taller than I am, but there are a few around. When I was younger I always wished I was 6" shorter...
