Don't trust...

The comments to my last post got me thinking.

Over the years we learn not to trust certain people and things.

My mom always says things like "I don't trust him, his eyes are too close together".

We don't trust computers, or politicians and apparently a lot of people don't trust bloggers! Imagine that!

As a long-term Mac fan I don't trust Windows and wish my Mac could do everything I wanted it to do.

We don't trust salesmen, especially if they come calling door to door.

We don't trust other kids to be as nice as our own are.

We don't trust weather forecasters.

We don't trust newspapers, they often lie or put too much spin on a story.

One of the funniest ones I heard recently was a woman declaring that she did not trust another woman "because she is too thin". What? Why? I wish I had the nerve to ask!

So, who/what don't you trust?

Give it to me straight, Doc, I can take it! What? Really? I didn't mean it! You should have lied to me!

I don't trust people who use sarcasm as humor and I really don't trust cars - I have had too many break downs and too many blow-outs!!! This really made me stop and think - and I realized that I really always want to think the best of everyone - until they show me differently.

Claire - I try to think the best of people, but after very bitter experience I find that I am now becoming quicker at making judgements. Waiting to be shown differently can be too distressing and painful when it happens. This is probably not good, though. I tend to distrust any piece of machinery that thinks it is more intelligent than I am, so modern cars are out! Sarcasm is often a sign of an over-inflated ego, so again you are probably right!

This is a thinking one... I don't trust my emotions (they get me into far too much trouble). I don't trust Windows Vista. I don't trust the stock market, telemarketers, or a friend/family member who gossips. If they gossip about others, they are probably gossiping about me as well.

Overall though, I'm a cautiously trusting person. I'd rather live with disappointment then to be suspicious about everyone. How about the next round about what you do trust.

I don't trust the school system to truly have each child's best interests at heart.

I don't trust telemarketers when they say they're not trying to sell me anything.

I don't trust my coworker who is constantly telling me that all these guys are asking her out and she has no idea WHY they have the impression she was interested in dating them because it's not like she was flirting or anything. I mean, just because she sits on his lap, why would he think she's interested in him?

(Oops. Sorry. Went off on a little tangent there....)

I don't trust banks or bankers. They only in it for the money. LOL

I have to agree with Terri and Janelle, I do not like telemarketers either.

There's an apron I wish I had bought that said: Never trust a skinny cook

I don't trust people who start sentances like "I just love her to pieces but....."

ok...so I'm feeling so bad right now because I so enjoy sarcasm...it is at times my parenting tool of choice ;)

will it help to say, I use my powers for good?

oh that does sound horrible over-inflated....;)

Jenelle - Gossips! Oh, I know, isn't it terrible! The things they say about people and you should see her house, dreadful.. ;-)

Terri - She sits on laps and then wonders why they ask her out? Oh well. I am with you on the schools!

Sitting in Silence - Our neighbours have a cat that keeps pooping in our flower pots. We have had to put wire mesh over a lot of them to keep him out! I don't trust cats - except for Fat Jedi Cat, of course...

Chachi - Hm, the bank/customer repationship is very one-sided...

tz - Never trust a skinny cook - great one! With Claire's sarcasm thing, I think I know where she is coming from - I think she is talking about those people who will tear you to shreds in front of other people and then end with "only joking, of course", by which time you don't know whether to walk away or impale them on a keg of beer. Been there, done that (as the victim), got the ex-friends!

I kept clicking on this post over and over again but I could never come up with anything! Could this be that I am way too trusting??? Ha! :)

Logzie - You trust everything and everyone? There must be SOMETHING!

I trust too much... and not enough.

I trust that people have good intentions - and I do this too much... even when my logical reasoning tells me not to trust them I find I do -

and I lack trust too much when it comes to people doing something for me so I don't have to - I figure it's just easier if I do it myself, cuz then it will be right (even when I know they can do a good job, or maybe even a better job)

I trust everyone....but when you show me who you are...I am one hell of a grudge holder.

I also learned from a very wise man that when someone wants to tell you something to say to them first,"Why do you want to tell me?" and second,"Can I quote you?", that puts a damper on any kind of gossip.

My mom forgot to mention that she doesn't trust banks either, just like Chachi!!!

So, after a couple of beers I have found the courage to answer your question...

I don't trust my words... especially when they are involved in technology. You never know for sure if the person you commented on or text messaged truly got your meaning and almost always when you try to be humorous, you offend.

I don't trust other drivers... even my husband. I truly believe that I could make millions if I offered Kenady's driving school. It would teach driver's not to make a complete stop when making a right hand turn or the proper amount of space between 2 cars when tail gating and when someone lets you into the line of traffic to wave... it's just damn common courtesy!

I don't trust the man the walks up and down the main highway near my house with an American flag waving and he is clearly having a conversation w/ somebody, but I can't see that somebody...

Zig - I think a lot of people suffer from the "easier to do it myself" syndrome - but if you are a manager you should be fighting it!

Kiki - Love the "Can I quote you?" idea! Might try this myself sometime!

Kenady - It is so easy to say something wrong when texting, isn't it? Did it myself last night!
