Yes, it is another Monday morning. Where did the weekend go?
Saturday was spent buying some new camping gear in preparation for next month's trip. We are all really looking forward to it now, especially after we put up the new tent that the kids will be sharing.
Sunday morning was not so good. We were woken up at 5am by the gut-wrenching sound of screaming rabbits. Yes, the murdering b$£%&%d cat had found a new way of getting another of our baby rabbits. By the time we got outside both the cat and the rabbit were gone.
The rest of the day was spent on further reinforcement of the rabbit run (we are not sure how the cat did it) and also adding netting extensions to all of our garden fences in the vague hope that this will keep the cats out - or maybe stop them escaping so quickly...
We hardly slept last night, laying there listening for sounds in the garden. One encouraging thing is that at one point we looked out of the window and saw a cat moving away from the run, apparently foiled by our latest improvements to the run. Less encouraging is the fact that our nets did not seem to have made the slightest difference!
So we are now on constant guard, just hoping that the remaining babies (Houdini and Panda) will soon be too big for the cats to kill.

Holiday here celebrating freedom from British oppression. :-)
Yes indeed! Have a great day!
Hi RC, I just began reading this post when hubby got home from his bike ride so we are commiserating over your loss of another bunny. We too would be sleeping fretfully and listening for every sound.
You know here in our yard we encourage bunnies and squirrels and a zillion birds. So because we are attracting them we do not want to make this a buffet for the neighborhood cats. We chase the cats away. Yesterday we were sitting on the couch watching a movie on hubby's computer and I saw a cat walking in our back yard. I jumped up and went out back and scared it away. We aren't at the place to invest money into chemicals or electronic gadgets to keep the cats out, but we have been investigating those things.
I hope you find out how the cat gets into your yard.
TechnoBabe - Yes, I can imagine you chasing away the cats! Our next door neighbour used to have a supposedly supersonic cat scarer, but it used to drive my wife and kids crazy because they could hear it as a high pitched whistle.
We are hoping that the netting will do the trick once reinforced.
And yet there are people who like cats.
And I hate to break it to you, cats can take down rabbits of equal size.
wigsf - Oh I know they CAN take down bigger rabbits but they don't seem to try - at the moment any way...
Any chance the rabbits can live indoors until they grow a little bigger? Damn cats!
Terri - Difficult to do - we would have to move the 2 babies and 2 adults in and we have nowhere big enough to put them.
