30 Degrees!

That what it is in my office right now! Loving it!

Had a totally fab weekend.

On Saturday we spent the day at our favourite seaside town, a short train trip down the coast. Great little shops, cliffs and a sandy beach that is a total sun trap. Laying on the beach we could have been almost anywhere, we could almost hear the sunbathers sizzling...

When we got there the tide was low, so the kids and I took our spades and dug out the biggest network of rivers and lakes ever. We even hooked it up with the one that the next family along was digging! Several other kids thought it was great and were splashing in the rivers, where the water was wonderfully warm for them.

Then the tide started to come in and we waded out into the cool waves, allowing them to break over us. It was fantastic.

That evening I had a little incident with a couple of the local kids. I was strolling along beside a wheat field with Custard when I heard a motor bike coming. Looking up I saw 2 kids on a rusty old motor bike hurtling towards me. Now I don't normally take much notice of this sort of thing (though I wish they would wear crash helmets and often tell them) but this time they hammered past really close with one of them shouting "get out of the f%&$ing way!"

I caught up with them at the end of the path, as they were turning around and swapping places, telling them not to tell me to "get out of the f£$%ing way!" One, pointed to the other and said it was him. I looked. HAH! I knew him! We have history! The whole damn neighbourhood has history with him and his family! Good! You see, the Police have been collecting information about what this family gets up to, so when I got home I phoned them up and told them about the illegal bike riding and the abusive language. Not much on its own but it is all part of the pile of complaints that might actually end up getting us somewhere...

Sunday was just as hot, if not hotter. After a trip to the supermarket to stock up on food (the kids are on holiday now, so it is like feeding a plague of locusts) I had a bit of time in the garden and then made dinner - home made fried chicken wraps with salad. Yummo!

Sounds like a beautiful day at the beach! Glad you are enjoying some lazy days of summer with your kiddos on break.

And I'm glad you put that little punk in his place and called the cops. Maybe you can help prevent something more serious from happening with this kid.

Terri - Thanks! Hope you are feeling OK. I deliberately left out the times I wondered how you were getting on - that would have made the post incredibly long!

Yah, I wish more people were like you and would stand up to these hoodlums...then maybe we'd get somewhere! It's because most people do 'nothing' that they are allowed to overtake entire neighborhoods! Just this weekend we drove past our old house--the kids love to do that and I enjoy seeing all the gardens that I planted flourishing--and we saw that the next door neighbors house had all the windows in the front of the house boarded up and there appeared to be gang graffitti on his garage door that had been attempted to be blotted out by painting over it. And that was a really nice neighborhood!! Chuck was saying that NOW is the time for those people to act and put a stop to it or it might just ovetake the neighborhood. He's right. I'm SO glad we moved when we did...especially now that Chuck is gone so much for work...I'd be home alone with 3 little ones...ugh...

Sounds like a great weekend with the family. Locusts... that makes me laugh, accurate, but humorous.

Enjoy a great week.

Teresa - it is amazing how quickly a place can slide. In the last place we lived my wife led a zero-tolerance attitude to bad neighbours and their kids. Our street was the best on the estate. After we moved things quickly went downhill and most of the people that we knew moved out rather than stand their ground. Sad.

Jenelle - I like a good metaphor, don't you?

Zig - School starts in a week? Wow, good luck with that! Try to get some time out in the sun before you start, though. Is the course very intense? I imagine it will be.

Your weekends always sound so amazing! Maybe I should quit being so lazy and get out a little more, lol!

But country air is so clean that I can't help but feel sleepy most of the time :) good thing I'm back in the nice polluted city that keeps me awake!

And nice job on reporting the hellions!

Ali - I don't know about "amazing" - I just like having some fun time with the kids. Oh, your poor body, can't get used to the oxygen! Ha!

Kiki - 30 C is about 86F? Not that hot by some standards, but good for here. It was a great weekend, even the endounter had its good points.

Sitting in Silence - I always thought the only jumpers in Australia were the kangeroos! This can't be true! I have seen Neighbours! It is always warm and sunny! My world will never be the same again...

i think children should be scolded when needed. there are many around in our neighborhood that are so rude and down right mean to the indians, especially the ladies. one day we were out walking and two kids on bikes started harassing 4 indian women that were walking.. riding right up to them as if to knock them outta the way, making rude remarks and such.. i finally said something, but it doesn't do any good. they laughed and tried doing it again.

the beach sounds fabulous and you had a much better time than what was had over in our part of the world... glad your kids had such a good time.
