Interesting times...

British politics have taken an interesting turn...

In research for an essay before Christmas I found a journal article (written a few years ago) that predicted the break up of the United Kingdom if there was another recession.  The argument went that during the good times. London was giving the regional governments plenty of cash to keep them happy, but as soon as things got tighter and London decided to reduce the cash flow the Scots etc would start thinking along the lines of "damn English, who do they think they are ripping us off like this!  FREEEDOOOOMMMMMM!!!!!!!"

Well we have another recession and the Scots have just voted in a party that wants full independence from England etc!  They are putting it to the vote in a couple of years time - I might need a passport to go to Scotland after that!  A strange thought!

Funny how $ motivates people, isn't it?

Much the same is happening here with the Tea Party. People are fed up. They're growing tired of a broken two party system of liars and big corporations calling the shots in Washington. Washington is taking all of our $ in taxes, cutting services, and now going to great lengths to try and disarm the American people. It's turning into a socialist and welfare state very quickly. And the people who think they are being "taken care of" by government don't see how all of their rights are being yanked away in turn.

We're definitely breaking down from within.

We may need a passport to get to Texas one day :)

Kate - Yes, I watch a lot of non-UK news on TV, including CNN and FOX News) and it is amazing what is going on. I know that our governments need to save money but they way they do it seems to really hurt the wrong people.

Oh c'mon. Can't we as a society stop blaming Mel Gibson for little everything? Sure he's got his problems, but can't we just leave the guy alone. How about we turn our attentions to that Angus guy? He played Robert the Bruce. Let's bug him instead.

It's the old adage, the more you give to your government, the more they take away. Seems like this mood of "break from the system" is catching hold all over the place.

Perhaps tis time to rise up against Longshanks.
Alba gu brĂ th!

And, yes, you do need a passport to come to Texas. We're trying to keep the riff raff out.
