Back

OK, I am back in action.

My absence was due to my father passing away on Monday night.  At nearly 76 years old, he had seen his share of illness, beating cancer twice for example.  He went suddenly, apparently in the act of reaching for his cigarettes.  Not a bad way to go, given the other options.

I won't go on at length here, but will make a small tribute by linking back to a couple of old posts that most of you will have missed first time around.  Like many elderly people, he liked to find things for us to do (presumably he thought that 3 kids were not enough to give us a busy life) - building sheds for him was one of them:

I am so sorry to hear about your dad. Thanks for sharing the old posts with us. (I thought "Move that bus" would have been funny too!)
My sympathies to you and your family. Having just gone through this with my father in-law, I know exactly how sad and difficult this time can be. Sending lotsa hugs your way....

Amanda - Thanks.

ShadowRun300 - Thanks. We seem to be at that time when we are steadily losing the older generation of our family...

When I was young, the older people would say that death is part of life. Now I am approaching the older age, with friends 20 years older than I am, I am understanding what they meant. My mom passed away Nov 27, and I am still adjusting to the fact that I can't call her and tell her something or send her something. But she was 91 so I am happy she lived a long life. I am sorry to hear about your father passing away. I sympathize with the many things you will be going through because of it.

I'm very sorry to hear about the loss of your dad. He must've been a great guy, since he raised you.

CiCi - That saying is very true! It will certainly take us a while to adjust to how things are now.

wReggie - Thanks.

Abby - My Mum did a lot more raising than my dad did (they divorced when I was 10) but he certainly had a big influence on who I am now.

Hey, I'm so sorry - if I lived closer I'd bring you some dinner and yummy desert. For now, accept a virtual hug :)

Oh btw, I didn't mean the dinner wouldn't be yummy!

I'm so sorry. What a shock that must have been! I'm glad that you could reach back into your blog archives and find some humorous stories about your dad. He sounds a bit like my dad, with the projects and watching over the progress and all. Hugs to all of you.

All of my old posts about my dad are gone, due to that hack job on my old blog. As for saying your day was "crappy", it never made me think of crappy as a word connected to a death in the family. Somehow, days keep passing no matter what happens.

Terri - it is a family trait that we go back and talk about the funny things when we lose someone. Some people think it inappropriate, but I like to think that when I go my loved ones will be sitting there laughing at the time I did this or that.

Lotta Joy - That is a shame about your old blog. Makes me wonder if there is a way of downloading an entire blog for safe keeping! Hah, "crappy" just seemed to be the word at the time - I would probably have used something different if I had thought about it more...
