Found a way of uploading my photos again, so here are some of my Christmas pics.
A couple of days after Christmas I went to a friend's house for a couple of 4 player wargames.
This was the first one, Turks vs Vlad the Impaler's army. The Turks won this matchup but it was good fun even for those on the losing side.
These are some of my Christmas toy soldiers on the painting board. The ones at the back are finished, the ones at the front still under way. These will be added to my Turkish army. Once these are done I will see what I need to put together a Hungarian army to fight them.
Another thing that Santa brought me was X-Wing, a boxed game that gives you Luke Skywalker in his X-Wing Fighter and a pair of Imperial TIE Fighters for him to take on. It is a great little game. Given a little encouragement I could do a blog post showing how this game works.
The rain continued over Christmas, making last year the 2nd wettest year on record in the UK. Given that just about all of the rain fell in 8 months I am sure that these added up to being the 8 wettest months on record. As can be seen above, some of the local farmers are thinking of trying their luck with rice this year :-)
The Great Stour is also running high again. This is, of course, the river that runs through Canterbury, our local answer to the Mississippi...
All those clouds did add up to some wonderful sunrises, though!
Hope you had a great weekend! I spent Saturday night having stomach cramps and throwing up, but after a good sleep I was fine again, although I did feel cheated that like always this shortened my weekend rather than taking place in work time :-(

The armies are shaping up quite nicely. With the TIE fighters, I was wondering if there was going to be a Vlad vs Jedi battle on the horizon.
Looks like a wet winter for you guys. If you get any more rain and you may have to kayak into work.
Hm, Vlad vs Jedi... Might have to see if I can find Storm Troopers in the right scale...
Sadly my route to work crosses the river rather than following it. Might need a ferry instead?
Wow, that's alotta water. Can you send some our way? And yes, if you're going to be sick, do it during work hours.
For the record, I would've put money on Vlad the Impaler.
Oh, those war-games look fun!
But I cannot get over the water/flooding photo. Jeeez!
That picture of the sky is beautiful.
Yeow, glad you're feeling better...that weather looks like here!
Oh PS - How patient is Mrs. RC to have all of those figures in your house?!
I don't get it. But then again, I don't need to. I'm afraid I'd just knock all of them down and yell "I WIN!"
Lotta Joy cracks me up. :) I don't get it either, but I'm always fascinated about how others, including some of my friends, enjoy it so much.
So yes, I would love to hear about how your new X-Wing game works.
So sorry you're getting so much rain. Hopefully you won't be wishing for some come summer. And glad your feeling better! I worked while I was sick, thinking I would feel better by my off days... didn't quite work out that way.
Abby - Vlad's army was not a match for the Turks in open battle, tending to rely on surprise and terror...
Meleah - Wargames are great fun in the right company. Sadly, female wargamers are few and far between.
Riot Kitty - My wife is utterly amazing when it comes to putting up with my toys (soldiers and guitar stuff) around the house. Actually, my wife is just plain amazing!
Lotta Joy - And that is why there are so few female wargamers :-)
ShadowRun300 - Well we are pretty certain that this summer will not be declared a draught - our water reserves are now fully stocked, the ground is beyond saturated and the farmers are starting to moan that their crops are drowning instead of dying of thirst like last year... OK, I will do an X-Wing post soon.
Wow! The wargames require quite a bit of space, don't they?
You should definitely do a blog post (with video?) about how the X-wing game works.
Strange how the weather patterns work across the world. I was just watching a news story on the extreme weather we've seen in recent years and how the drought carries on here in a good part of the U.S. Maybe you could send some of your rain this way!
It's not fair how illness cheats you out of your free time. I took the day off from work yesterday to have a mom/daughter day and instead ended up having a stomach virus. It was bad enough though, that I'm still aching, so I'm staying home and missing a day of work anyway.
Video too, eh? Will see what i can manage. Hope you recover quickly!
