First day back

I woke quite a few times last night, which is very unusual for me.  I usually just go out like a light when my head hits the pillow, but not last night.

I was kept awake by the howling wind and the sound of things being blown around in the garden.  The rabbits were snug in their houses, but you can't help worrying about the little guys can you?

As morning approached there was little let up outside and I began to dread the ride to work.  Finally the time came and I had to dump my slothful ass into the saddle and get peddling.  It was not nice.  The first trip after 2 weeks of doing as little as possible is always a shock to the system but having to battle against wind and rain that was hard to walk into, never mind CYCLE into was something else!

But I made it, of course, happy to get into some clean, dry clothes for the day's work.

The weather got even worse as the morning went on - here is a video of some of it:

Glad I wasn't out in THAT lot!

Things have improved this afternoon, though, and we now have clearish skies and the trees have stopped thrashing around too, so hopefully the return journey won't be as bad.

Hope your first day back was OK!  Assuming that today WAS your first day back, of course...

Abby - I do around 8 miles door to door.

Even as I was wishing I had ONE MORE DAY this morning, I know it will be good for me to get back in routine. I've been lazy too.

Your weather does NOT look fun for cycling. Glad you made it okay.

Hey, I love the new name and bright new blog wallpaper! Happy 2012 RC, yup, I had a great one too, but still have a house-full, so haven't been up to posting yet.

I got woken up by a tree limb bouncing off our bedroom window, nearly gave me a heart-attack! Thankfully the glass is reinforced, so no damage done. Jake's sulking - he's not been out for his run today, poor lad. I think you're nuts, cycling out in this!

My first day back was just to go to the senior center today to take down the Christmas decorations and begin the decorating for January. I am the official "decorator" so it comes out of my head. Lots of silver for this month, glitz and glamour to brighten up January. So sorry you had to ride in such weather. Do you take a shower and change clothes when you get to work?

It's bad enough to go back to grind and with that kind of weather, it makes it even tougher. I always wondered about the length of your daily rides - how do you handle it in the dead of winter?

Terri - "one more day". I think most of the world was thinking that with you!

Shrinky - Glad you had a good Christmas. Hope Jake got his run in the end. Me? Nuts? I think the vote was closed on that long ago :-)

CiCi - I sometimes shower, other times I just freshen up and put on clean clothes. In the summer it is better as I can ride in shorts and t-shirt. Your decoration sounds great - things can feel really drab after the Christmas stuff comes down.

Agg79 - I tend to just grin and bear it in the winter! The only time I chicken out is if there is ice on the roads but this tends to be when the rest of the country shuts down anyway and everyone stays home. Think I will do a post about this soon!

I was dancing a snow day jig hoping we'd get an extra day....the forecast for this week though is sunny and in the 40's-50's -- I'm not a very good dancer apparently :D

We started school today too. Time to spread fear in those young minds! Mwa ha ha ha ha!

TZ - My daughter did a rain dance when we were camping in the summer - the next day it hammered down...

Shadowthorne - The future is in your hands!

You are totally my hero. I could never do that. Especially in that kind of crazy weather! I'm a wimp. :) xo

Nenette - I always wanted to be a hero! But cycling is great exercise - not in a Canadian winter, though!
