The Kitchen... one of the things on my mind...

It has been a while since I mentioned the kitchen.

This is because there have been a few problems that are really bugging us.

We point them out to the workmen who say things like "Oh it's OK, it's the floor that is slanting".  Then they say "OK, we will come back and have another look", and don't.

The problems?

I guess the main one is that the drainer for the sink slopes the wrong way.  Yes, the water runs AWAY from the sink, off the end and onto the work surface.  Stop laughing!  You want pictures?  No.  Just picture it in your mind, OK?

Another thing is that the supposedly smooth floor (they used that self-leveling silicone stuff) is very lumpy and uneven.

Some bits of wall are just plain botched - I could have done better myself!

OK, we rent the house so maybe we shouldn't moan that much, but the sink thing?  Seriously?

On the plus side, the kitchen floor is really slippy, which makes playing tug of war with Custard a total wheeze as you can drag him around and there is nothing he can do to stop himself!

More soon!

Wait... Are you saying the same people did the floors, walls and kitchen cabinets? That ain't right. Floor guys should do the floor and wall guys should do the walls and kitchen guys should do the kitchen and plumbers should do the plumbing and electricians should do the electrical work.

And any good kitchen guy will slant the cabinets to supplement an uneven floor.

Renting or not, I think you have a right to expect quality work from the workmen. Although the slippy floor and doggy tug-of-war sounds pretty fun.

Renting has its advantages. Mistakes are not always yours to own. For example, when you cut a hole from the kitchen into the bathroom, who pays for that? Still, having a slick floor is always funniny with a dog or cat. Especially when they try to make a quick stop/turn.

..... my mom asked me to rent my new bungalow to some students... I said hell no! My new furniture and walls should be graced by me only. I am gathering some minions to live with me soon. Wait for it...

whatigotsofar - Different guys did each part, but all worked for the same company. Compensating for the floor was clearly too hard for them...

Terri - You are right of course.

agg79 - It was these guys who cut the whole too! And they paid for fixing it, of course.

Shadowthorne - Choose carefully! Looking forward to stories...
