The weekend

Friday was Pizza night as usual, with our usual extra guest - my eldest son's best friend that came back from Spain recently, who was also sleeping over.

Saturday found my wife feeling a bit poorly, so we took Custard out for his morning walk together (she usually does mornings and I do evenings), which was really nice, just strolling along together with the dog talking a load of rubbish.

By lunchtime it was a really nice day, so I went into town to buy some stuff to do a barbeque which always goes down well with the kids. I could tell my wife wasn't quite on the ball, though, as there were 3 occasions where I was busy cooking away trying not to incinerate the sausages (which were rather more fatty than expected, turning the barbeque into something resembling a napalm strike) by constantly moving them around when she turned up and help something out to me - a sausage in a bun, a dish for burgers, a drink - expecting me to take it with my third arm! I didn't say anything, though, a quick juggle, a slurp of drink and a quick "thanks", then back to my inferno...

Sunday we went food shopping to re-fill our freezers and cupboards. My daughter came with us and it was great fun. I found a High School Musical t-shirt in her size with "I love Brad" on the front, so I said I was going to get it for her for Christmas. Last year she would have loved it but this year she is all "My Chemical Romance". So being the evil father that I am I kept slipping back and putting it into our trolly until she saw it and sent me back with it. Poor girl!

While there, my wife got me a new winter hat - a big furry Russian style hat with ear flaps etc. I love it, and don't care how dumb it is.

Sunday afternoon turned out cold and wet, so I did a roast dinner with bacon-coated meatloaf - quick, easy and the kids love it.

Sunday evening I was totally exhausted - watched Jeeves and Wooster, tried to watch Fringe but gave up and went to bed at 9.20.

So, as you can see, a good weekend, but I did not manage any of my goals. Oh well. Oh, I nearly achieved one - I looked at some of my unpainted figures and found a bunch of stuff that James sent me a while ago - some Celtic Chariots and leaders. I have decided that these will be the next things that I paint, so a little bit of progress, perhaps...

Well, better go now - I have got A Christmas Story playing on a nearby PC...

i want to get The Christmas Story... i'd like to have that in our collection.

ummm, all the food makes me hungry. i didn't cook a lot this weekend, so i feel a bit guilty, and we did pizza last night from a new place we found which was quite delicious. so that's good. :)

i love how you get along w/ your children. putting the t-shirt back in the cart and making her think you were going to buy it, is the cutest thing. and the hat sounds great... i also love stuff like that.. even though i'm a girl. ;) guess that's my tomboy side coming out.

sounds like time was well spent, even though you didn't get around to painting... which is something i've been longing to do. bought two canvas boards some time ago but have yet to pick up a brush. about a month or so ago, had some things swirling around in my mind - things to paint - but they've since left me... so i guess i should wait until it starts again.

enjoy the movie! :)

You are too funny, teasing your daughter with the t-shirt that way! Poor girl.

Your hat would be all the rage around here, especially when we've reached the point of being nearly snowed under.

Your mention of Jeeves and Wooster reminded me of something. "House" is on all the time on one of our stations and we've been seeing it a lot. (Jake loves it.) I caught a few minutes of one episode where House was playing the piano when his doorbell suddenly rang. The song he was playing was the one from the Jeeves and Wooster clip you posted recently. I never would have recognized it had it not been for your post. Funny.

Have fun watching your movie!

Maybe you didn't get the things done that you planned but in the end of it all...the things you did do (spend family time) is what really matters so I say you did great! And all that food sounds amazing! I love how you said that meatloaf was e.a.s.y...FOR YOU MAYBE! LOL!!! :)

Um Naief - My wife is great at painting, but I can't do it on a canvas or paper. I can paint toy soldiers OK, though. I hope you post photos when you do paint something!

Terri - Excellent - you clearly saw a little in-joke there that you would have missed otherwise!

Logzie - How hard can meatloaf get? And you are right - I never complain about spending time with my family, it is too precious!

Sounds like a wonderful weekend! This time of year certainly calls for lots of time spent in the kitchen - and that's never a bad thing

Miss Got Wings - Yes, time spent in the kitchen is good, especially with my 2 boys who are constantly hungry. I remember being like that when I was younger, never full for more than half an hour...

Next time you feel like ordering pizza, come round to our place instead, for a genuine Aussie BBQ!

The husband & I love "Fringe"!

I still think that you need to put that t-shirt under the tree or in her stocking! Hilarious!

You know, as a joke, my dad put an alien head salt and pepper shaker in my stocking. I loved it! It was my favorite gift that year & I still have them to this day - I bring them out every now and then for use. My mother was flabbergasted with, "we spent all this money on this, this and this and you end up in love those stupid alien head salt & pepper shakers?! I can't believe it. . . " To which my dad smiled and laughed.

It was a great Christmas!

David - Hi! Well I don't order out for pizza, I make my own, but thanks for the invitation!

Jen - Another Fringe fan! Excellent! The Alien heads - I assume the are the grey aliens with big eyes type? Sounds cool!

Ali - You must get cooking! Little E will need good meals!!! A photo of me in the hat? Maybe...

Kiki - You want a pic too? Oh well... My wife is doing much better now, thanks.

Read your blog yesterday - went and bought a pot roast to make this week - and I haven't bought one in years - your food talk was just so inspiring!!!!
We all want to see the hat - is it like the one in Seinfeld?
