It is getting dark earlier now.
This means that by the time I do the late dog walk it is more or less completely dark and I run the risk of losing the dogs or falling into a ditch.
Not to worry - I have the technology.
I have a light that straps onto my head, like a miner's lamp.
It works great.
But I must look like a complete idiot.
Not to worry, though.
Nobody sees me.
I took a detour the other day, and went through the part of town where I grew up. At the end of my road was "The Square":
I remember when some of these trees were planted!
Yep, this is where Little Rock Chef played when he was young. Countless hours spent playing soccer (badly), or pretending to be John Wayne fighting Indians/Japanese/Germans/Outlaws. It looks sadly deserted now - the residents seem to have succeeded in their eternal quest to have the place turned into a private, residents only area. In my day there could be up to 50 kids here at one time. Hm, no wonder they wanted to make it private!
Have a great weekend!

You don't look like an idiot, only a determined man on a mission (at night). I've got a couple of those myself. Backpackers will use them to be "hands-free" when they are camping/hiking.
It intriguing/sad to see things change from our younger days. The woods where I spent my youth playing, exploring, building forts, is now a subdivision with large homes and manicured lawns.
Agg79 - Hah, I thought you would understand about the light! My town has had creaping development over the years, so like you I have seen old play areas vanish under new houses and shopping centres...
I have a headlight, but I only wear it for camping. For my early morning runs, there are a few headlight wearing people out. There's one woman who straps then on her dogs, like little miners!
"The Square" looks like a fun place for little Rock Chef and his pals!
Safety First! Funny thing is, I still have a scar on my knee from where I fell in the ditch while running in the dark. I obviously should have a headlamp as well!
The Square looks like a great area for kids to play in. I'm sure it is sad to see the changes, or lack of kids in your case. I hope to someday be able to go back to the various states and countries I grew up in and see if I can evoke any memories. Your lucky to be able to visit your old "playgrounds"! :)
And if you ever decide to become a miner, you already have the headgear ;)
I once asked advice from an experienced runner friend about running in the dark. He suggested knuckle lights. I wonder if they'd be as effective as your headlamp? I haven't looked for them yet so I have no idea.
Isn't it kind of sad to look back on the places where we grew up? They're never quite the same as we remember. The open area where we played at the end of our alley now has homes built on it.
Haha! My hubby has that exact same light :) Been a while. How's trix?
Abby - lights on the dogs is a great idea - we put glow sticks on Custard last year...
Shadowrun300 - running in the dark - disaster waiting to happen?
Riot Kitty - I think that mining is one of my least likely career choices...
Terri - Knuckle lights? I might have to look them up!
Ali Kat - Wow, great to see you again! Doing great, thanks! Hope life is treating you well! The babies must be growing up now!
