Friday Roundup

Another busy week has flown past!

We are down to 3 rabbits.  Earlier in the week we realised that Buttercup (the big brown and white one in the title photo) was not right, having lost control of her bladder.  We took her to the vets who said they could run some tests but that it was probably just old age, so we had her put down.  So we now have Houdini, Panda and Bubbles, their mother.  Resisting the urge to get another friend for Bubbles as she is alone in her run now but can still talk to the babies who are right next door.  We will see how it works out.

Warning - going Political for a moment!

So, Gaddafi is dead now!  Can't be a bad thing, really.  I see that Amnesty International want an investigation into how he died.  Really?  Please, concentrate on the real issues, don't waste time and money arguing about the fate of a man who had so much blood on his hands.

One thing that I WOULD like to see debated more, though, is the way that the NATO air strikes (mainly by the British and French) seem to have totally exceeded the UN mandate to protect civilians.  With the current leaders of the British government having been so critical of the legality of operations in Iraq and Afghanistan, their conduct in Libya smacks of more than a little bit of double-standards.

Political moment over.

The weekend is looking good - cold but dry.  Plenty to do - shopping, stacking hay for Humphrey (my mom's pony), reading for my dissertation, cooking, etc.  Meanwhile I think Mrs RC will continue redecorating our hall, which is taking on an increasingly red theme...

Right, better get back to things - have a great weekend!

Hmm, as a political person, I thought your comments were reasonable and measured. The difference is in the parties here. As I've seen said recently, If George W. Bush had killed Ghadafi, Bin Laden, and Al Awlaki, he'd be on Mount Rushmore now. Since it was Obama who succeeded where they failed, all they can talk about is how everyone BUT Obama did it.

Sorry about your bunny. We have some here and we've called them bunnies ever since they started showing up. We made a habitat for them and one sprinted into it when the hawk came for breakfast. We'll see if winter lets them make some more, although they probably don't need any help.

Ditto on the politics.

Sad that Buttercup's time was up, how is Mrs RC about that?
Were Buttercup and Bubbles the same age?

Gaddafi is no longer a threat but there are plenty more evil people to step up to the vacancy.

TechnoBabe - We think that Bubbles and Buttercup were roughly the same age, but as we are their 3rd owners we can only guess. Mrs RC is OK, although a bit worried about how it will affect Bubbles... Sadly you are right about the line of bad guys waiting to step up for their turn.

James - I have noticed that too! Good work giving the bunnies a safe haven. I suspect that Spring will see a good bunny population in your area!

wReggie - So far so good - I would hate to have a fight here, but sometimes you just have to say things don't you?

I'm thinking of getting Amnesty International to check in on you and make sure the rabbits are not being Gaddafied.

Too soon for turing Gaddafi into a verb?

Wigsf - Ah, you are too smart for me! Buttercup was a subversive influence and had to go! And no, I think your timing is perfect!

Please can I borrow Mrs RC? I'll treat her well, and promise to bring her back within a year or so (once she finishes everything around the house).

I agree completely with you regards Gadaffi - it was a bloody, crappy end for him, but I guess he chose his own fate there. I certainly see no gain to throwing time and money away on an inquest over it.

I am so sorry about your poor bunny, it's horrible to lose our pets to old age.

Hope you have a good, relaxing, catching-up weekend!

Shrinky - Ah, you say you will give her back now, but if you ever saw how good she is with kids like your Sam...

I am sorry to hear about Buttercup. It is always hard to loose a pet.

I agree with your political moment. Good points, fair questions. There seem to be double standards on both sides of the fence.

Hope you have a great weekend!

Agg79 - Thanks. And you are right - politics is a dirty game, no one has the monopoly on right and wrong.

You've had too much loss in the rabbit family lately. Hope the kids are handling it all okay. Poor Buttercup.

Agreed on the Gaddafi investigation. Let it be and invest that energy in a more worthy cause.

Enjoy your busy weekend and try to find time to relax and enjoy. (I imagine the cooking is what will bring these things!)

Terri - Yes, we have gone from 7 to 3! The kids know about death and don't take it hard... And you are right - some good relaxing cooking is what I need. Might do some experimenting...

I'm sorry to hear about Buttercup. Never an easy thing to do, but as your children learn about death they also learn about compassion for another living thing through your actions. Goes hand-in-hand. Except with Gaddfi, who reaped what he sowed. In the end, no compassion given or received.

Have a great weekend!
