The North East of the USA and adjoining areas of Canada were plunged into darkness.
When I was a kid (late 1960s, early 1970s) we had black outs on a regular basis - loved it! In some ways I think they would be fun again, a sort of enforced break from the constant technological barrage that our brains are exposed to. Yes, Zig, I know that it can be done voluntarily...

I remember a prolonged blackout caused by a typhoon in my area back in 1996. We lit the house with candles. Fortunately we had a decent reserve water supply, and our gas range had its own independent tank. It was like camping in some ways, business as usual in others. I enjoyed it in a sentimental sort of way, but my wife didn't.
Missed ya.
I think I would be freaked out having never experienced that before and highly addicted to my cell phone and laptop.
I wonder if you can die from that.
