Oh SHUT UP!!!!

This morning I struggled to get out of bed. It was so warm and cozy as we cuddled up together and the mornings have been so cold lately.

But the clock ticked on mercylessly and eventually there was no getting away from the fact that I had to get up and take Custard out for his morning walk. As I got wrapped up to face the frost and fog that have been standard fare for the last week, Custard bounced around excitedly, eager to get going.

I jammed my hat on, clipped on Custard's lead and walked out into the back garden, down the path and off along the road, heading for the fields that are nearby. As I went I slowly became aware of my surroundings, waking up and coming off auto-pilot.

No fog. Hm, that's good.

No frost. Even better!

I took off my hat and undid my coat. It was not actually COLD! (Cold by South East England standards, that is, which does not compare in any way with what you guys in Canada and the Northern USA have to put up with, of course!).

The ground had thawed, making it soft and squishy, Custard's belly quickly turning a nasty brown instead of his usual pale gold.

Finally, my ears started working.

CHIRP CHIRP!!!

CRARK CRARK!!!
SQUORK! WHO'S A PRETTY BOY THEN?!!

OK, I made up the last one up, but you get the idea. The birds had decided that Spring had come and were singing their little hearts out. Every single one of them. Hundreds of them. They hurt my ears!

"Oh, shut up" I muttered. Confession: I am not a "Morning Person".

Custard stopped sniffing and gave me an odd look. He was clearly oblivious, but if I made that much noise with one of my guitars at that time in the morning there would have been trouble!

There is no justice!

You told the first birds of spring to shut up? I'm surprised! And I was just telling everyone about your eternally positive attitude too.

But I guess you're entitled to a few flaws... nobody's perfect! ;)

I only muttered it, and as I said, I am not a morning person. Give me an hour to wake up and I am back to my normal perfect self ;-)

I am not a morning person either. Even my parents don't talk to me unless I've first uttered something. the husband has learned this over time. Poor thing. . . .

There never is any justice.

Oh - hehe - poor, poor John!

Just teasing - I get like that when the squirrels are out here and they get all riled up if you are within 40 feet of their tree.

I do a lot of screaming at them from out patio...

Uh oh, sounds like you needed a cup of coffee and a bagel at the beach!! That's the way to wake up, Custard s allowed on the beach too!!!

Jen - Oh, you sound like a real bundle of fun at breakfast! :-)

Ali - Squirrels - my in-laws have those where they live, even one that tries to get into house!

Kiki - now you are just being mean! :-)

You are allowed your flaws, Rock Chef:) I adore the morning! I am usually every morning somewhere between 4:15 am and 7:00 am. When you have little ones who have absolutely no concept of what "sleeping in" means, then you better start becoming a morning person:)

I don't believe you are not a morning person John. Any body who can get up just to walk dog and cycle over to feed horses before work equates to a morning person in my book.

Reggie - I love that one, although I think it might be the second one with the body count clock that really cracks me up.

AmazingBrenda - The frost was back this morning but it is beautiful outside now. I think Spring has sprung!

Kenady - Oh I know. My kids have now reached the age where they are sleeping in at weekends - the other night my daughter was up until 2am playing Sims2 and then slept in until 1pm!

James - Hm, maybe I am not as bad as I think I am! Great to see you again!
