I have a new colleague...

I am going to call him Hal, after the computer in "2001 A Space Odessey" because he thinks he is more intelligent than I am and tries to over-ride what I want to do. He is a pain in the butt and I have already sworn at him a few times. I may soon resort to physical violence.

I don't expect much. I ask him to do a simple task and he either sits there doing nothing, or suggests an alternative way of doing things. No, I don't want that - if that was what I wanted, that is what I would have asked for. Just do the job, PLEASE!

And the worst thing is that no matter how bad things get between us, I am stuck with him for the foreseeable future.

Hal is, of course, our new photocopier!

PS Please do not be too shocked that I have changed my colour scheme!

I like the new fancy pants look!

And isn't it awful that computers/machines seem to be telling us what to do now? Wasn't there a movie that portrayed deep problems from machines ruling the earth, for example (aside from 2001), The Terminator?

Just sayin'.

Mindy - thanks!

Jen - There have been a lot of books and movies about that sort of thing. My favourite movie of this type is "Maximum Overdrive" - a Stephen King story with music by AC/DC all the way through. Great viewing with a few beers!

Is it as bad as it seems that I'm disappointed that Hal is a photocopier?
The idea of someone other than myself resorting to physical violence in the workplace made me feel a bit more relieved.
But now that I know it's machinery...well...

I like the new format...very clean.
Have you seen the movie "Office Space"?
There's a good photo copier death scene in there that you might appreciate...

Love the new look and the new pic, very Rock Star!!!! As for anything electrical I have some sort of magnetic field around me that causes most machinery to take on a life of their own-hateful!!! Its a mystery how I even post on my own blog...I understand completely how you feel about Hal!!!

Nice colors! I think there's a relative of Hal's working in our office and yes, I have sworn at him a time or two as well!

Love the new color scheme and layout and the new pic is super cool!

You should photo copy your butt... I think that would get Hal back!

LOL! Actually I prefer technology to people. Or at least some people

Ali - I have to ask - have you actually attacked a colleague? I am sure that a delicate little flower like you would never dream of it, but...

Chris - I will look out for that movie, thanks for the pointer!

Kiki - Thanks. I have worked with people like you, it really is amazing what can happen when they are around.

Logzie - Glad you like the new look. Did you really think I am capable of thinking such things about a human colleague? My facade must be slipping :-)

Jahooni -
Well, I woke up this mornin'
An' the rain was pouring down!
I said I woke up this mornin'
And the rain was pourin' down!
So I tried to go back to sleep,
But my wife just stole the eiderdown!

Looks like I have GOT The Blues, ha ha.

Terri - I think there must be a conspiracy going on. Is your copier networked and capable of faxing etc? If so I bet they are talking to each other, plotting...

Kenady - Oh no - I once was a TV programme where someone did that and the glass broke :-(

Sid - Good to see you! I like technology that does not think it is smarter than me - bet you hate the Microsoft Paperclip thingy!

I laughed when I discovered HAL was the photocopier. You should take a picture of "him" and do a mock-up with the subtle red lens and all.
