You might remember me talking about Mr Chuffington.
He is the young hedgehog that we adopted in the Autumn and have fed religiously over the Winter.
He is all grown up (and out!) now, the biggest hedgehog I have ever seen at first hand. Still no good photos of him, he is pretty shy, but hopefully that will change soon.
Yesterday, Mrs RC carried out her plan for his run. During the Winter, he had a rabbit house and a small area of mud that he could poop in and dig around in. He how has the run of about a quarter of our (rather small) garden. Mrs RC made an opening in his old run and put a wooden fence around the new, larger area. Last night, as it got dark, he came out to investigate. He slowly explored the perimeter, working his way around, sniffing, prodding, nosing around. Every so often he retreated back into his house (for a snack perhaps) and then returned to his exploration.
We are hoping that we will be able to get some good photos and video when he becomes bolder...

Ah how nice, your little prickly friend has survived the winter and thrived on your TLC. I'm keen to see pictures of him... and BTW, how do you know it's not MISS Chuffington? Kinda hard to get close enough to find out, with all those spiky bits to negotiate!
Shammickite - We are assuming he is male because of the noises that he makes. I don't think the spikes are a problem for them, when they relax they don't hurt. Not that I would relish such a challenge! :-)
Oh, I'm dying for photos!
Hedgehogs are gaining in popularity as pets it seems. I always see them at reptile shows for some strange reason! Maybe get a Mrs. Chuffington?
Abby - we have considered it...
Yes, you HAVE to get some photos!
Be careful if you get a Mrs. Chuffington. My daughter has a friend who got a Mr. and a Mrs. Hedgehog. They are reproducing like ... well, like rabbits!
Yes! Photos! Link, my 18 year old, will be so jealous! He's always wanted a hedgehog.
Terri - I don't think we would be too upset by that. They are having a tough time in the wild, so maybe we could boost the numbers a bit :-)
ShadowRun - They are amazingly cute, I will try to get some pics over the weekend.
Ooooh. Pondering getting a companion for Mr Chuffington? I'm with Terri - be careful what you wish for. It could lead to a whole new herd.
Can't wait for the pics!
