Oh sunny day!

Yes, we have some sun today!

We had sun yesterday too, but it turned into a monsoon when I headed for home.  I squelched nicely as I can in the door, dripping water everywhere....

The weekend was very good - Mrs RC's birthday was great.  Number One Son was home from Uni for the weelend, and out daughter baked a wonderful coffee and walnut cake (Mrs RC's favourite).

OK, when I say it was wonderful, it LOOKED wonderful and everyone said it tasted amazing, but as I do not like coffee I gave it a miss.  Instead I helped demolish a raspberry pavlova that Number One Son made.

Dinner was a home made Mexicanish mashup - slow roasted chickens, beef, ribs, wraps, salad, sauces, nachos, etc.  Splendid stuff!

We had intended to go out on the Sunday, but Frou Frou had been on the receiving end of too many scraps (she is a chicken junky) and needed constant access to the garden for most of the day.  Still, we had a nice day, slobbing around chatting and eating.  In place of dinner out I managed to cobble together a rather good lasagne with home made pasta and fresh baked bread rolls.  Not quite the feast we had on Saturday, but still good.

And then it was Monday, and Number One Son headed home for a few more weeks, when he is returning for his own birthday and Mothers Day, which falls on the same weekend.

Life is very good right now.

Except for the rain, but you can't have everything can you?

OK, I guess that people who get to holiday in Florida (you know who you are...) might have everything, for a while at least  ;-)

Hold everything. You don't like coffee? Are there really such people out there? ;)
That coffee and walnut cake looks fabulous. I'll be searching for recipes as soon as I'm finished here. I'm happy to hear you had a back up cake, though. I know how you love desserts. (THAT I can relate to...)
And hooray for sun! We're having some here too. Not the warm sun that "some people" are enjoying, but sun just the same.
Have a great week!

ShadowRun300 - Even worse (for an Englishman) I don't like tea either! I feel like such an outcast, I might as well be a Canadian or something!

What a creative cake! And I drink coffee AND tea, so it balances. Sorry about your monsoon. What a way to ruin a nice commute. I'm trying to live vicariously through *SOME* people.

What a beautiful birthday cake! Your daughter is so talented. And it sounds like a perfect birthday weekend, full of loved ones, good food and fun.

And yes, I know who I am! :-) And I am not taking one moment of this vacation for granted. It is such an amazing privilege to be able to do this and I'm loving every minute of it!

Very nice cake. I am a coffee junkie and nothing like a little coffee and cake to make it taste good.

Sounds like it was great birthday celebration, even if your dinner plans got changed.

I don't like hot coffee, or hot tea. But I love coffee ice cream. I don't think I'd like tea ice cream, which makes me wonder why someone hasn't invented it. Happy Birthday Mrs. Chef. Now don't try pulling this off again next year.
