Rolling into, um, I guess you call it Summer...

It is coming to the end of the academic year - exams are done, marks are being processed, the summer ball is near (but I never go).

But there are things I do go to.  Yesterday they gave out this year's Golden Apples:

I won my category in 2011 and 2012, but was up against it this year.  I was invited to the ceremony (meaning that I had at least been nominated) and took Mrs RC along for the ride.  It was a much bigger event than the last 2, having more the feel of a mini-Oscars or something!  There was a buffet and jugs of apple juice on the tables, with the lucky ones being called up on stage to receive their awards and have photos taken.  It was a great afternoon, and in the end I came 2nd in my category, which I was very pleased with.  Besides, this year's apples weren't as posh as the ones I have got  :-)

Tonight, after work, we are going to our staff/student BBQ.  The weather is rotten, but it is at a pub, so only the cook (not me) is likely to get very wet.  Mrs RC is coming in for this too, giving her a chance to meet some of our wonderful students.  Should be a good evening - I even left my bike at home this morning so I could catch the bus back home with Mrs RC - which is only sensible, it is not a good idea to cycle that road after too many beers...

CHEERS!

The golden apple award is deserved I am sure. Is Mrs RC getting out more lately? It is great that you two are able to share your work life like this. I really like your weekly lunches together. Enjoy the BBQ.

CiCi - Yes, Mrs RC is getting out much more than used to be possible - we are both loving it.

At least your weren't given road apples.

Wigsf - Had to look that up. My mum's pony provides more than enough road apples for us...

Sounds like a nice ceremony! Congrats on 2nd place - smart to back off the year they give out "non-posh" apples. Wait til the reward's a little more posh, and then try again. :)
Sorry it's going to rain on your BBQ. We can't seem to get away from the rain either. All outside activities have to be done quickly before the next bout of rain hits. But the grass is really green!

It always feels good to be recognized for a job well done.

That there's a fine apple. I remember when you won last year.
Happy summer! We'll take any leftover rain.

Congratulations on your nomination! You seem to love what you do AND the students seem to love you. No wonder you're often up for recognition!

Hope the barbecue is fun regardless of the weather.

So pardon me for being so far behind...what do you do and what are the awards for?

ShadowRun300 - Remarkably, the rain stopped for us! Yay!

Wornoutwoman - Yes, it is good to be told that you do a good job.

Abby - Shipping the rain your way right now!

Terri - Yes, this is a great job for job satisfaction!

Riot Kitty - I am the technician in the Geography department of a university. This puts me right in the middle of the students and lecturers, with plenty of opportunities to help struggling students and give the really good ones a bit more of a push. I also get to just chat with them about stuff - music, movies, pets, life the universe and everything, and parenting with the mature students who have families as well. It is a great job.

Congrats on the nomination again. Too bad you couldn't pull off a three-peat and score another apple for the trophy case. Still, it is nice to be recognized. And, as wigsf3 said, at least it wasn't a road apple. Hope the rain gave you a break to enjoy the night out with Mrs RC.

Agg79 - Yes, the rain stayed away, and all we had to worry about was it getting a bit cold as the evening went on. A rather good evening!

That is so cool! Thank you, I have been curious.
