Catching Up

Yeah, I have been pretty lazy, haven't I?  So, what have I been up to?

On Thursday evening, I had a couple of beers with an old friend who used to sing in one of the bands I was in.  We had a great catch up session and, yes, this was the first step in getting a fun band together.  He has hinted that he would like to have a to at playing guitar too, so maybe we only need to find a drummer now...

Friday was mega busy at work - not sure how that happened, as we are supposed to be getting into the quieter part of the year now, but ho hum.

Saturday I was off to play wargames at a friend's house.  He only lives 2 train stops away, but the trip was made more tricky by the fact that my train went straight through and only stopped at the 3rd stop.  As all of the trains going back seemed to be doing the same thing, I decided to walk back.  It was only a couple of miles, and I do like walking through places to see what is there.

This church was the most interesting building on the route, a nice contrast to the dejected looking immigrants who seemed to predominate on the first part of my walk.

My friend has a very big garden, and we play the games in his large shed/summer house.  His garden is not the neatest, but there are some wonderful flowers hiding in it.

The wargame was great fun and looked spectacular.  We fought a fictitious battle set during Charlemagne's invasion of Spain.

My army narrowly won, but it could have gone either way, a real nail-biter.

The only thing I regret was that while we were playing a family of foxes were playing in the garden outside - missed a great photo opportunity there  :-(

So it is now Sunday, and I am waiting to go out to do some food shopping, but no one seems to be rushing.  Ah, here comes Mrs RC now...

Time to go!  Have a great Sunday, see you next week!

Another step taken toward getting a band together! Won't be long now!

Funny how busy days can creep up on you when you least expect them. Keeps us on our toes, I guess.

Strange that the train didn't make the usually scheduled stops. Was there any particular reason that you could figure out? At least you got a nice walk back. That is a beautiful church!

Have fun food shopping. I need to do that today too.

RC, did I ever mention that, in my previous life, I was a drummer? If you were but only a few train stops away. Sounds like a great start to a band. Hope that you are able to find a good percussionist to round out the band. It sounds like it has dome great potential.

Nice way to spend the weekend, even if you had to walk back a few stops. At least the weather has been more cooperative of late. And a good battle, to boot!

Sounds like a nice weekend for you. That church is wonderful - we don't see stuff like that over here!

I've never heard a war game described as a nail-biter. Great flower pic and did you go in the church? I would be curious to see what it looked like on the inside.

Terri - Apparently people had been complaining that the train went too slowly in that area as there are several stops quite close together. Therefore, someone decided that alternate trains would nolonger stop at the station I wanted...

Agg79 - Hm, I guess popping over once a week for a band practice would be asking too much :-)

Abby - We do have some wonderful little churches dotted around the place. My favourite is the one where I used to live. Only seated about 20 people! There used to be a crowd outside every Christmas...

Riot Kitty - No I didn't go inside - the days of churches being left unlocked are long gone, sadly.

I know how much you like the games and it sounds like a great place to have them at your friend's place. You can look forward to getting pictures of the foxes next time. That church is awesome.

CiCi - You are right - next time I am there I am going to be very twitchy. Might see if they will let me put out some meat pies or something as bait...

I love the photographs of the church and the flower!

Meleah Rebeccah - Not so taken with the toy soldiers, though. Glad you liked the others, though!

The church is awesome! You've always been one to look at the bright side of things. Most people would have been put off by having to walk 2 miles out of their way.
Any good meals to share with us after your trip to the grocery store? :)

ShadowRun300 - Yes, I did make a great beef casserole after finding some steaks which had been knocked down from about £10 to £2. I trimmed off any fatty bits and fried those up for the dogs, who enjoyed it too!

Interesting about the family of foxes. They are very shy creatures usually, but a couple of days ago I saw one walking along the road in the middle of the day, but he looked very straggly and had a ratty tail instead of a big bushy one, so I think he was ill. Lots of rabies about here.

And thanks for your painting advice, love to hear what other people have to say about my efforts!
