Well...

That was a pretty good weekend.

Everything was wonderfully British - ships, parties, marching bands, a concert, the Queen and family, the rain...

Of course it rained.  Lots.  The only people who seemed to be taken by surprise by this were those who designed the Royal Barge, which utterly failed to provide enough cover for those on board.  They are, presumably, now locked in The Tower awaiting their fate.

It was a weekend for Royalists everywhere to wave their flags and sing God Save the Queen at the tops of their voices.  Many even seem to have actually learnt the words for the occasion!

There was, of course, the odd Republican trying to bring it all down.  One group tried to protest near Tower Bridge, but the crowd shouted them down and sang at them.  They seem to have given up even before a TV camera could get there to film them!  Later, on the last day, there was a guy being interviewed on TV saying that having a heaving, cheering crowd of half a million around the palace, in the rain, was not a sign that the Queen was popular.  Really?  My inclination is to say what I would say to anyone who does not like the way things are done in Britain - find a country that does things the way you like them and move there!

Anyway, we had a fun weekend - mainly just chilling.  Had a sort of barbeque on Saturday - I managed to cook up a load of steaks in between rain storms, but we ate indoors.  In fact it was quite a foody weekend.  I also cooked some Indian-ish food on Monday (told the kids I was celebrating the Empire!) which went down really well, with Chinese takeaway last night!  Between that, Mrs RC cooked up some wonderful little cakes (brought some to work today for a snack) which went down well, as always.

OK, better get my ass in gear!  More soon!

Hahahaha!

Being a bit or a rebel, even by U.S. standards, I've never been a big fan of monarchies. That said, I've always rather liked the Queen. She seems nicely grounded and has handled her 60 years of queenness quite well, all things considered. I'd love to have her over for Thanksgiving dinner.

And speaking of food, that's quite the weekend of ethnic mix you had.

That Steve, such a card.

I was wondering how you celebrated the Queen. Good to hear everyone was in good spirits, despite the few rabble rousers (Off with their heads!).

Sounds like you had a pretty good weekend in spite of the rain. Of course, I would expect rain in the forecast. I was mildly disappointed last year when I got there and it wasn't raining. Of course the heavy fog on the Thames made up for it.

I watched some of the celebration on TV and tried to find you in the crowd. Now I see that you were too busy cookin' and eatin'.
Happy to hear you enjoyed your weekend! What are you going to do with your $200,000,000?

Abby - Well you Yankies decided you didn't want a King or Queen a long time ago, and with good reason! Things have changed quite a bit since then, though.

Agg79 - The winter was very dry, so I guess you were lucky to even get mist when you visited :-) We have plenty of rain now, though.

ShadowRun300 - Did you see Wally/Waldo in the crowd? He WAS there! Really! The money? Might emigrate and change my name...

So I wonder how many millions of people congregating in one's honor adds up to popularity?

Good to hear that you celebrated by eating well - (not really surprised considering your adventurous spirit with food) - and that you were able to just relax and enjoy it.

Of course you should ask for the $200,000,000. If you can't trust a guy named Steve, who can you trust? I'm sure this is all on the up and up!

Terri - Clearly more than the transport system is capable of putting in one place at one time! :-) Yep, might give Steve a call ;-)
