Posh Food

Had dinner at one of those posh restaurants today...

The sort that gives you a huge bowl with 3 spoonfuls of soup in it...

Or one good mouthful of pasta...

I sat there thinking...

"I will need to have a Big Mac on the way back to work"...

I started to fantasize about ribs in sauce, pepper steaks, fudgecake...

The whole meal must have been less than 300 calories, including 2 slices of tomato bread...

Managed to resist the Big Mac, but I just had 2 bars of chocolate...

Is this how celebrities get thin?

A week eating like this and I would probably die of starvation...

Next time we plan something like this I will ask about portion size - excuse me, wil the meal provide more calories than it takes to sit and eat it?

Celebs get thin because eat those meals. They don't maintain hunger like you did because they balance the meal with cocaine.

wigsf - good point! Maybe next time I should order a Coke too?

One time I counted 6 raviolis and nothing else on my large dinner plate and I just had finished a small dinner salad. That was it and it cost so darn much. Like you, I figured I would have to stop on the way home to get something to eat.

I've tried one of those trendy Argentinian restaurants where the meal is "staged on your plate" for artistic effect. Two strips of lettuce and a slice of beef that wouldn't satisfy a Parakeet. Give me an old-fashioned BBQ or Chinese Buffet any day. Of course, those celebs have trainers and lipsuction to take off any excess flab...

I must not have ever experienced a posh restaurant because it always seems there is way more food than I can eat.

TechnoBabe - "Waiter, I think you just gave me someone's left-overs!"

Agg79 - Chinese buffet sounds good right now...

Terri - Maybe you escape this sort of thing up where you are - people need serious calories to survive the winter!

Oh, that is too funny! I have to confess, hubby always ends up finishing my plate off whenever we eat out, regardless of the portion size (the guy must have hollow legs)! I love food, but I am a grazer, I like to nibble all day, rather than sit down to what most folk would call a "proper" portion. But yeah, hubby has often come away disappointed from the type of place you've just described!

Shrinky - Yes, these are not places for guys with "hollow legs"! I used to graze between meals when I was younger, but don't seem to need to do it as much now - guess my system is finally settling down...

Oh, man...you people have no sense of culinary elegance!

(Chuckles, spits all over monitor.)

Nuts. I knew I couldn't say that and keep a straight face.

That reminds me of the time I and some other ex-pats went to a "reputable" Italian restaurant in one of the ritzier areas of Kobe. We looked at the menu and wondered how the prices could be so low considering the reputation of the place and the classiness of its decor. Then we saw the portion sizes...

TechnoBabe, at least you got 6 raviolis. I wasn't as fortunate.

We stopped in at a McDoorknobs on the way back to the hotel. That helped make us feel a bit more satisfied and a bit less insulted.

Moody Minstrel - Now I would have felt REALLY cheated if that happened at an Italian - you expect Italians to feed you until you burst! Love the opener, BTW!
