Plastic-coated happiness...

One of my little presents this Christmas was a laminating machine - one of those things that allows you to coat sheets of paper with a plastic film.

I tried it out on Christmas Day, and then set it aside.

It gathered dust.

Then a few days ago, Number 1 Son was doing some homework - some really complicated looking science stuff about molecules and whotnot. He was really pleased with his work and was showing it to me when I suggested laminating it. Surely his teacher would be impressed by the extra bit of effort and improved presentation.

We laminated it. It looked really professional and Number 1 Son was even more pleased with his work.

The trouble is, he is now addicted. He wants to laminate everything - his favourite recipes, more homework to go with the last lot, sheets of notes for the games he plays on the PC and XBox. I have lost control of my gadget! It is mine! It should be where I put it, gathering dust, not being used for stuff!

Now I want another present to replace it! What do you think?

Ah yes...a fellow laminator! I love to laminate! I wish I had a machine of my own so I could laminate the WORLD!! LOL But b/c I don't...when I'd homeschool I bought that contact paper stuff and that was my cheap way to laminate. It wasn't as good but it did the job. :)

I. Love. To. Laminate.

And I have the same problem as your son - once I start, I want to laminate everything! Recipes, newspaper clippings, old receipts, everything! It's sooooo fun!

Which is why I haven't let myself get a machine of my own.

*And once again, my true nerdiness is revealed...

I think it's only fair that you get a replacement present, and then you make sure it stays put where nobody can use it!

Teresa - The laminator set I got was really cheap, much cheaper than a roll of sticky plastic. Maybe you should check out prices where you are...

Ali - Oh I think you should treat yourself! You could laminate Miss E's drawings and stuff!

Mindy - Damn right! My stuff should be gathering dust, not being put to good use by the kids!

Oh yeah I would love a laminator. Probably best that I don't have one.

I got mine really cheap at Tesco. I intended to use to use it for wargames reminder sheets, army rosters, etc...

Unless you got yours for under $3 then I don't know...the roll is like $2.97....he he!!!

I've checked prices here and they are atleast $30 which is not too bad and I've definately got it on my list of things to OBTAIN...along with a Toaster Oven.

I have never felt the need to own a laminator. Now after reading this post and all the comments, I'm wondering how I've survived all this time without one!

I'm with Terri. As I sit here and contemplate what I would do with a laminating machine, I can't think of a single thing!
Hmmmmm...
Two minutes more of thought....
Nope, can't think of anything I would use it for.
BUT, thanks for letting me stare off into space for three minutes of my work day! LOL

All a laminator would do for me is make more things to gather dust while it's gathering dust.

I think. . . ?

Teresa - Of course I hadn't thought about your bargain hunting skills!

Terri - It is like one of those shopping channels - how can I survive without a Mega-Jet-Wash-5000?

Michele - Happy to help! :-)

Jen - But at least laminated stuff is easier to clean...
