Yes, Canada has sent us Hurricane Force Winds, due to peak around lunchtime today.
I still managed to cycle in to work this morning, occasionally struggling against strong gusts of wind. I did manage to get extremely wet and cold too, but I have now dried off and changed clothes so I am all snug and warm again.
The journey home will probably be quite exciting as I expect there will be a few fallen trees, bit of fence and garden sheds laying around.
Thanks Canada! After all the great things we did for you!
That was a joke, by the way. When it is all added up I think Britain owes Canada BIG TIME! Dieppe for starters... Sorry, sometimes I just can't control the "inner nerd"!
UPDATE
Late morning saw some high wind and hail. Lunchtime was sunny with little wind. It is now mid afternoon and the wind and rain have returned. Seems the storm/hurricane has lost some of its ferocity on the way in, the strongest wind so far seeming to be 83mph in Cornwall.

You are very welcome John! For the hurricane winds that is, I really can't personally take credit for the rest of it...
And your inner nerd? Oh, we're all a bunch of nerds too, don't you worry about it ;)
Glad you aren'taking credit for Celine Dion - no-one should have something THAT awful on their conscience! :-)
Buckets! That's a lot of wind. I know, I experienced after effects of Hurricane Rita. . . and you went riding on your BIKE!
That satellite photo looks somewhat bad. While it makes sense, I just did not think a hurricane would ever hit the UK.
Interesting information re: Dieppe.
You are a brave one. I avoid the outdoors when there's any kind of weather that threatens the well being of my hair. There's nothing I hate more than spending the day with my hair in my eyes.
Jen - Yep, and I was calling YOU mad only days ago! Dieppe is a great example of military dumbness. "Hey, we have got a load of troops standing around doing nothing. Let's throw them at the toughest part of Hitler's defences and see what happens. Thought so, they died..."
Terri - my hair has nothing to fear from the wind, especially once I have jammed my crash helmet on!
sorry to hear about the winds - we didn't mean anything by it - how's that? *(and we will be eternally sorry that we let Celine Dion out into the world - please forgive us)
Zig - that's OK, we forgive you for the wind. Not sure about Celine. Still you did give me Rush and Bachman-Turner Overdrive when I was younger, soI guess we can call it quits!
83 mph!!! Wow!! Don't blow away on your ride home!! :0)
I think we can all blame Canada for most bad things in our lives.
Eek! That reminds me when I lived in Tulsa, tornado season, get ready winds here we come. Glad it calmed down.
Oh & i'm glad your nice & warm now. That's very important. haha!
Rock Chef....80mph winds + rain = someone needs to pick you up!!! Take care friend and get home in one piece!!!
It was crazy windy here the other day, but no where near 80 mph!!!!
Be careful!!!!
Welcome to the nerd club!
