The Town Tree

You might remember that, a couple of years ago, my town made the national news.

We had the worst Christmas Tree in Britain!

A few locals, myself included, tried to make it look better, but it was a lost cause really...

This one was replaced one night, by a Special Forces team, but as they failed to put the public's decorations on the new tree this was not a success either.

Last year, we were promised a massively expensive tree, which I don't think was much better than the Charlie Brown tree above.

OK, it was a BIT better, but this pic really did catch its good side.  It certainly failed to live up to the hype, IMO...

So, what have we got this year?

Smaller than last year's tree, but nice proportions, and multi-coloured lights!  I think it is rather nice!  Hopefully I will catch it after dark soon, so we can really see how good it is.

Anyway, we have failed to make national news this year, we can hold our heads high again!

HA! Yes, I remember when you guys had the ugliest Christmas tree in the world! I felt special to know you.

This year's looks nice, so far. It should look even better in the dark!

Yep. This one looks like the best so far. Night time will be the final test.
The fencing around them seems to be more and more protective. What are they keeping out?

Abby - Did you go around telling people? "Hey, I know a guy from this town in England and ...."

ShadowRun300 - It is probably a combination of stopping children getting spiked by the tree and stopping drunks knocking it over.

I remember that scrawny twig from a few years ago. Hopefully the town council learned their lesson on going cheap for the holidays. This year's looks pretty good. Cannot wait to see it in the dark.

I love how that woman outside of the pub is looking at is like it's the Holy Grail. Or maybe she's just had a few.

We couldn't have a town tree in Portland...people would protest logging, or something like it.

Agg79 - The scrawny twig was the last tree that the council paid for. They have been donated since then!

Riot Kitty - I think the woman is trying to smoke a cigarette without freezing to death. She has probably had a few too.

I remember that pitiful tree. Poor thing didn't even really seem to gain a Charlie Brown sort of appreciation.

This year's tree looks nicely moderate. I'll bet it's pretty all lit up at night!

Terri - "Nicely moderate". What a great phrase! I want to use that in conversation today!
