Update

Been pretty busy over the last few days - Number One Son is now home from Uni for the summer.  He has found an interest in cooking, so is practicing on us.  His first dish was Balti Butter Chicken with Naan Bread.  Amazing, one of the best curries I have ever had, interestingly spicy but not too hot, creamy and rich while somehow being light and easy to eat.  Looking forward to more!

Sunday was Fathers Day.  Body Builder (our younger son) got me this card:

Inside he wrote "Everyone forgets the bass player!"  What a cool kid!

In a supermarket I saw these:

Really?

The area of woodland that I have been watching has come on nicely this year.  Last spring it was flat and desolate...

Isn't Nature wonderful?

Meanwhile, inspired by the band, I have returned to the Flying V bass with its 4 pickups.  I have removed the old on/off switches in favour of giving each pickup its own volume control, allowing infinite mixing of tones.

Number One Son wanted to buy me something for Fathers Day, so I chose a new bridge for the bass:

Shiny!  It is also much heavier than the old one, giving a better sound to the whole instrument.

One final thing - Shabunkin the fish died.  Not sure what happened, one morning she/he was fine, later in the day she/he was dead.  No sign of any injuries or anything, strange.  I hear that this is something you have to accept with fish....

Shabunkin's time was up I suppose. Did you have a traditional funeral at sea?
I love foxgloves, they don't seem to grow wild here, and I only see them in gardens. As a kid in N Devon I used to wear the bell-like flowers on my fingers, and then my mother told me they contained digitalis... so don't lick your fingers afterwards!!

Sorry to hear about Shabunkin. His time with you was so short-lived, but at least he died from natural causes...
Your woodland is certainly coming along quite nicely! Beautiful pictures!
And you DO have great kids! At least THEY don't forget about you. ;)
Happy Belated Father's Day!

With the exception of Shabunkin's passing, sounds like a good week. I seem to have the last of immortal fish, whose death I am ready to accept. I'm still puzzling over those Weird-Doughs... Invented by a pregnant woman, perhaps?

Shammickite - I only found out about the foxglove thing many years ago after I climbed half way down a cliff top pull one up for Mrs RC. Nothing like risking it all to impress a girl!

ShadowRun300 - Yes, my kids are the best.

Abby - I can't imagine anyone else wanting them!

Time with the kids, good food, new toys. A pretty good weekend, by all accounts.

Alas, poor Shabunkin, we hardly knew ya but you will be missed.

And salt and vinegar doughnuts. That is just wrong on all sorts of levels.

Isn't it great when the kids come back home from school for the summer. I think this is such a great stage in life, seeing them blossom into confident adults with new interests and passions. Since you're kind of a foodie, it doesn't surprise me that your son is trying out his skills at cooking (and impressing you.
