Good thing to do once in awhile, either move so you have to discard or give away or sell all the extra stuff, or just clean out the cupboards every year. Ha. Good luck.
The mysteries of Time and Space :) The ancient stuff returns to haunt you - screaming "Why you left us to die / dust / rust o zombie Rock Chef?!" Put them on the mantelpiece as conversation pieces :)
Occasionally, we have "freezer dump" and clear out whatever has accumulated in the freezer/pantry. Makes for interesting cusine. It is always good to clear out the cabinets every few years. Makes room for more "collectables".
I still have a couple of toddler drinking cups. I save them because you never know when you're going to have a visit from a toddler!
