Reasons to be cheerful

Number One Son has officially got his place at Uni to study Theoretical Physics.  Yeah.

We are in for a stonker of a weekend, with a predicted temp of 30C by Sunday.  That is hot for us.  BBQ here I come!

I am off work again next week and can make the most of the sun.

I have started looking at the details of my trip to Canada and the USA next year.  Currently looks like being in 2 main stages - Edmonton (visiting a wargamer friend) via Winnipeg (hoping to meet up with old blog friend Ali) to Minneapolis, probably by train (to visit another blog friend - no prizes for guessing who!), then a flight to Tulsa (to see yet another old blog friend - anyone remember Logziella?) followed by an overland trip that passes through Nashville, over the mountains and into Virginia (probably by Greyhound) where I can visit a few Civil War battlefields.  Gettysburg is the must-see, of course...

If anyone has any suggestions for stops and/or detours along the way, please let me know!  I am going to try to work out timings during next week....

OK, better go!  Have a great weekend, and see you soon!

For places to eat whilst traveling Canada, check out foodnetwork.ca and the program You Gotta Eat Here. Everything on that show looks amazing.

In Minneapolis, there's these two places that claim to have invented a hamburger called the Juicy Lucy. It's a hamburger with a cheese-stuffed patty. I saw those places on a Travel Network show called Man v Food. They looked so good I made them myself. Very good. Then I found a new restaurant in my town that serves them too. Let me tell you. You haven't eaten a hamburger until you've eaten a hamburger that squirts melted cheese into your mouth when you bite into it.

I have to stop reading blogs at lunch time.

Wigsf - I have seen a lot of Man vs Food episodes - guess I will be tuning in again in case they repeat the Minneapolis one. We don't get You Gotta Eat Here yet, which is surprising given the amount of Canadian movies we are seeing these days! Thanks for the pointers!

Congratulations to number one son! You have a brother who likes snakes, tattoos and a dog named China. I have a physicist brother. I'm starting to think we're related.

Have fun with your trip planning. Blog friend meetups - I'm a fan!

If you go through Nashville, you MUST stop at Martin's BBQ. It's a about 15 minutes south, but where there's a will, there's away. And if there isn't a way, let me know. I'll swing by and pick you up. Should only take me about 4 hours. :)
Hope you share your plans as you finalize them! Sounds like it's gonna be great fun!!

No trips to Toronto????? Too bad!

Congrats to your son! Theoretical Physics? Is he planning to become a mad scientist?

Love the plan. Sort of a midwest to east coast swing. You definitely have to hook up with Terri while you are there. Still planning for something around the State Fair time? Nashville will be fun but SR300 has more experience at that spot. Especially when it comes to BBQ & music. Keep us posted on the trip plans. Too bad you cannot make it down into Texas.
