Friday on my mind

Well I bought my copy of MS Office last night.  While in the store I got to chat to the manager.

I explained my confusion about the online/in store/collect in store prices (see the previous post).  I pointed out that this had totally wiped out any chance of me making any impulse buys - I would go home, look at it online, maybe reserve it and pay the cheaper online price or more likely decide I don't really need it!

His reaction?

"Tell me about it."

From a series of short comments and looks, I got the impression that his on the spot sales have fallen through the floor - his huge store is now just a warehouse where people pick up stuff that they ordered on the internet.

He seemed so down hearted I didn't push about the extra price reduction...

Have a great weekend!

Obviously, he sees the stupidity in this whole pricing game too. And he's hit the hardest by it. Poor guy!

It takes out all motivation to buy through the store and I think the sales people see that. With the internet, there is always a better bargin out there. Although, I still prefer the human factor in the sale.

Things continue to change and some people are getting left behind in the changing times. Nice of you to understand his side of it.

I know the guys really well at my local computer store, they've helped me out with lots of stuff, and have often spent time fixing my screw-up's for free. I agree with you, I don't want to spend out more money than I need to, and often find myself shopping on-line for better value - but the quandry is, if that ends up forcing my local store out of business, I would sure miss them sorely. Sigh.

Terri - Yes, I really felt sorry for him - and I rarely feel sorry for salesmen! :-)

Agg79 - I also prefer a face to face sale - hate typing my card number into a website...

TechnoBabe - Talking to some people I feel such a dinosaur for actually using real shops!

Shrinky - Given a choice I will always go to a local store, but I am starting to see the choice taken away more and more these days :-(
