Since the beginning of the month, the south of England has officially had a drought.
We are not allowed to water our gardens, wash cars, etc.
The running joke now, of course, is that this must be the wettest drought on record.
We have had plenty of rain since the beginning of the month, and the rest of this week is no exception:
We have had so much rain that brooks and bournes (part-time streams) are running in torrents.
But we still can't water our gardens...
Not that we need to...

We had the same thing down here last year. It was so dry that the trees were bribing the dogs (old joke). Even though we had lots of rain since the first of the year, it was only recently that they lifted the drought warnings for surrounding areas.
A few more old sayings:
It's so dry my duck don't know how to swim.
It's do dry the catfish are carrying canteens.
It's so dry the birds are building their nests out of barbed wire.
Oh that's funny! :) The weathermen must feel silly saying you all are in a drought. I guess it's because the rain total so far still isn't where you should be this time of year???
You're right though. Better not to be in a real drought. We've definitely had our fair share of rain around here, and the grass and flowers are loving it. The farmers too!
"wettest drought on record" has me curious about what IS the wettest drought on record!
We had a similar thing here a few years ago. Now the utility company is trying to encourage watering because of their lost income!
Agg79 - Wonmderful sayings - especially the tree one - I will have to remember that one!
ShadowRun300 - we have had 2 years of below average rainfall and we manage our water rather badly...
Abby - I suspect that there was a drought warning when Noah was building his Ark!
It is pretty daft when you consider we're an island surrounded by nothing BUT water.. hey ho, eh? Must admit, we rarely have a hosepipe ban, it rains here virtually all year round..
Love the new header pic, btw.
Shrinky - yes, your end of the country certainly gets more rain than we do - in fact you are probably stealing our rain!
I suspect you're not too upset about the ban on washing cars either!
As soon as they brought in the hose pipe ban it started to rain, and hasn't stopped since. Apparently May is going to be very wet too. Great.
